Description
XH558, Spirit of Great Britain, the last airworthy Avro Vulcan B.Mk2, passes Beachy Head lighthouse on the way to Eastbourne air show. The famous white cliffs on the South coast of England make a stunning backdrop for this beautiful aircraft, which first entered service with the RAF in 1960. After her retirement in 1993 came years of dedicated hard work and fund raising, but in October 2007, Vulcan XH558 took to the air again.
Beachy Head lighthouse, with its distinctive red and white stripes, has stood at the foot of the 530ft white chalk cliffs since 1902, when it replaced the old Belle Tout lighthouse (1834), which can just be seen atop the cliffs in the distance.
