Love it.
Before the recent drought in Texas, this little madrone tree was a favorite landmark on the drive up to the basin campground in Big Bend National Park. I have stopped and photographed it in its beautiful location many times over the years. In 2011, the drought, now a few years old, got dramatically worse with record heat, and record lack of rain. I was saddened to find this tree in October of that year, dead. I painted it at sunset, because it seemed to me that the red bark of the tree was burning, releasing its energy back into the evening sky. It has become to me a symbol of all the losses from that drought, and from climate change in general.

It is very much a living medium, that(on good days) cooperates with the painter to create art. I feel blessed to live near the beautiful Guadalupe River, and all the varied sights of the Central Texas Area. I am a signature member of the Texas Watercolor Society, and an associate member of the...
