Description
This image is a colorized version of a 1919 black-and-white photo of the Gaffney, South Carolina cotton market taken by photographer June H. Carr. On October 16, the day of the market, 600 bales of cotton were sold at 43 cents per pound. The foreground street is Granard Street between Frederick and Robinson Streets. The picturesque old Southern Railway Depot on the right no longer stands. Also gone are the old Limestone and Gaffney Manufacturing cotton mill buildings seen in the distance. The steps on the left lead from the old post office building which was restored to house the Gaffney Visitors Center and Art Gallery.
