Description
Victor Ice Plant, a facility of Victor Cotton Oll Company, long provided ice to customers in Gaffney South Carolina. Local residents have fond memories of obtaining ice at the plant for use in churns for making delicious homemade ice cream. The Victor Cotton Oil Company, founded in 1899, constructed the city's first cotton seed oil mill. The company provided a market for seed produced by farmers of the area and furnished them with fertilizer and cattle feed. By 1910 the operations of the company had expanded to include a flour and corn mill, an ice plant, a fertilizer factory, and several cotton gins. The Victor Cotton Oil Company Complex, formerly listed in the National Register of Historic Places, has since been demolished, but memories of it still remain.
This photograph was shot on Kodak Tri-X Pan 35mm black and white film. Sepia tone was added.
